Here are a few of my thoughts and insights regarding a select race or races from yesterday's action.
SARATOGA 9/2/10 Thanks to Lisa's Booby Trap being completely over bet down to even money favoritism, us backers of Queen of the Creek were able to get a plump 4-1 price on her in the second division of The Riskaverse Stakes Thursday at Saratoga. After taking control a few jumps from the gate, Julien Leparoux let Queen of the Creek do her thing on the front end without trying to restrain her. Like she did in winning a 2x optional claimer over some older fillies going the same one mile distance as The Riskaverse on July 26th, Queen of the Creek opened a long lead heading up the backstretch before never looking back on her way to a gate to wire victory. In the July 26th race, she did get tired and was getting caught by the older fillies before the wire saved her. In Thursday's race, her fellow three year old fillies never got close to her as she scored by nearly four lengths on the line to complete the one mile in 1:33.94 seconds. The aforementioned Lisa's Booby Trap was never a factor at any time in the race and finished last. Queen of the Creek's final running time was well over a full second faster than what the first division of The Riskaverse went in when Awesome Maria made her turf debut a winning one under Johnny Velazquez while finishing the mile in 1:35.06 seconds earlier on the card. Although Awesome Maria finished her final quarter a tad faster than Queen of the Creek finished hers, Queen of the Creek ran at a faster clip throughout and the fact that she stayed on and maintained it without ever being threatened, made her performance in the second division superior to that of Awesome Maria's in the first division....in my opinion. A reminder that Friday's first race post time at Saratoga is 2:30PM.
